Paint-horses originally descend - like the Quarter-horse - from the first horses that Spaniards brought with them to America in 1400. Later, these horses cross-bred and the result was a compact muscular horse that was extremely fast over short distances. Formerly Paint-horses were mostly used for ranch work, but today they are used mostly in Western riding, on galloping lines but also for jumping, dressage and driving. When a Paint-horse is born without white markings or with few markings, it is known as a Solid-Paint. Paint-horses and Quarter-horses are the same breed. .
SKIPPY is a venerable old lady of 20 years. She is originally from Germany, born in the United States. She is the mother of most of the horses here, and she volunteers as babysitter to other foals. She is very friendly and understanding and often comes up for a chat..
SUNNY is a Solid-Paint and born on the farm. Skippy is his mother. HE IS THE COOL ONE. Taking good care of all beginners. He is not in a hurry and is very relaxed. He thinks life is one long holiday. He is also an expert at untying knots. Together with his brother, Lucky, he is famous for disappearing down to the paddock again.
PEANUT is a small reining mare who came to us from Germany as a 4-year-old many years ago. She was all skin and bones and unbroken, herd-bound when she arrived and did not want to be alone in the stable. But she has gone on to take part in many competitions and brought home quite a few prizes too! She is a very wise and clever mare with a lot of life experience....
ZOEGA our Arabian mare came to us as yearling. She is a sensitive lady who dislikes getting wet hooves, even if she has to put up with it in our climate! She is a lot neater than the others and she has very particular ideas of what she needs to do and not do.
WHICHITA is a brown and white Paint-girl who is still under education. She is eager to do her best but needs a steady, confident rider as she can still get confused. She is wonderful, responsive and smooth to ride. Very feminine..
LUCKY is a paint who has been with us since he was a foal. Now he is big and muscular boy who is very social. He is kind and very childish. Loves to fiddle with knots and knocking down the saddles from where they hang. He likes to gallop - fast if he is allowed! .
PEANUTS NIGHTWARRIOR (NIGHTY) He was born one night in June out in the pasture when nobody was around. A spirited, curious, mischievous boy who likes to test all the limits. Full of energy and playfulness, social and really loves to be scratched and brushed all over..
